I bet you are wondering just what that picture has to do with anything. Well, those are the main characters (the Reed, the Mouthpiece, the Stand, and the Mallet) of this haunting band tale with many twists and turns I shall tell you!
When the Bandroom becomes dark and silent, from inside the lockers comes the Reed from Beyond the Grave! It lets out an evil whistle as it climbs down the shelf where it was abandoned 50 years ago. Unfortunately, the Percussion Room was open and the Reed walked into it. The Reed somehow managed to climb up to the top shelf where the Mallet of Ages Past resides until nightfall.
The Reed whistled and awoke the Mallet; they both climbed down to find the Mouthpiece of Lostland. The Reed and the Mallet climbed down and went below the heater vent and started to make a ruckus until the Mouth-piece jumped down from the vent. Only these accessories, along with the Broken Stand, could awake the instruments. Following their nightly ritual, the four accessories proceeded to the center of the room, where they made enough noise to wake the dead, which was necessary to wake the instruments. One by one, flutes, trom-bones, trumpets, and saxophones came out of the band lockers and into the center of the room.
The Reed climbed into the Mouthpiece and the Mouthpiece made a loud blowing noise, shooting the Reed up towards the ceiling. Once it landed on a light fixture, the reed moved into a lock made especially for it and turned itself to open it. The lights flashed on, except they were different colors, like purple, green, and yellow. The Mallet climbed into the Mouthpiece and was shot up towards the ceiling, where it opened a panel and pressed a button. From the hole that opened in the ceiling descended a disco ball. The Broken Stand grabbed a CD hidden in the piano, inserted it into the CD player, and went to Track 2.
Instantly, the disco ball spun, the lights flashed, and from the CD player came the song "Thriller." The instruments went wild and started to dance. At this time of night, all social boundaries are broken. Flutes danced with tubas, stands with clarinets, and percussion with trumpets. Once "Thriller" ended, the instruments' favorite song played "The Chicken Dance."The instruments were ecstatic. The mallets danced on the marimba, the tubas played melody, and the trumpets harmony. Long after the song ended the instruments danced and played. Nearing three o' clock, the instruments started to clean up and returned to their lockers, their stress gathered from the day relieved. Before any living being even entered the Bandroom, everything was back to normal. The humans that went in and out had no idea what had happened only a few hours before.
The Reed gave a slight laugh. It knew that this night was the night when the instruments would awake pencils and paper, desks and computers. Tonight, the school would be conquered. Tomorrow, the world!
